A USD 18 million investment

The Kolin Group of Companies was awarded the build-operate-transfer contract for the Çanakkale-Kepez port by the Ministry of Transportation (General Directorate for Railways, Seaports, and Airports) with a franchise period of 29 years. The port’s infrastructure and superstructure construction has been completed at an investment cost of USD 18 million.

The port’s main pier measures 33,250 m² in area and contains control buildings, an administrative building, a passenger hall and amenities, warehouses, waste and bilge water treatment facilities, laboratory buildings, fueling facilities, and a 2-km private road that provides convenient linkage with highway transport. The pier and all its associated works were completed in a very short time.

A huge contribution to tourism and the local economy

With the commissioning of the Çanakkale Kepez port, the full range of cargo loading, discharging, and customs clearing services are now being provided for shipping in the Çanakkale Straits and its environs. The port also contributes significantly to the region’s tourism now that cruise ships can dock there. By serving ro-ro vessels, it also adds to the local economy as well.

A full-service port

Çanakkale Kepez is a full-service seaport capable of providing all the needs of seagoing vessels in the straits and the region from container handling to treatment and disposal of solid and liquid waste, from ship chandlering to technical services, from freeshop and shipstore services, to ro-ro and passenger vessel services. Because of this, it eliminates the losses of time and money that are incurred in the maritime industry when a ship is unable to obtain everything it needs from a single port. Çanakkale Kepez has a 214 meter dock, 42,000 m² of concrete-surface outdoor storage area, 3,000 m² of enclosed storage space, sheds, a freeshop, and a passenger hall.

Çanakkale Kepez’s 5,080 ton capacity bilge water facilities accept both solid and liquid waste and are the second largest in Europe after those in Barcelona. It is regarded as one of the most important facilities that accept waste in the world.

An excellent geographical location

Because it is a full-services seaport, Çanakkale Kepez is an ideal choice for ships plying international routes in the Mediterranean. A 2-km road connects directly to the İzmir highway and provides convenient linkage with other destinations.

Çanakkale Kepez is also located just 18 kms from the site of ancient Troy, making it the closest passenger terminal to a historical site that attracts thousands of visitors every year.
