Economical, productive, comfortable, environment-friendly, clean fuel for Eskişehir
This company began life as a subsidiary of BOTAŞ in 1994 working on natural gas infrastructure in Eskişehir. It was scheduled for privatization in 2002, at which time it was renamed ESGAZ.
Kolin Construction acquired ESGAZ, which holds the license to distribute natural gas in the entire province of Eskişehir, in December 2003 at a cost of USD 43 million.
ESGAZ takes a consumer-focused professional approach to service in the conduct of its business in full compliance with EMRA regulations.
One of the first two natural gas distribution companies to be privatized in Turkey, ESGAZ ranks fourth in the country in terms of residential unit consumption. In keeping with its 100% customer satisfaction and total quality management philosophy, the company has been awarded ISO 9001-2000 Quality Management System, ISO 14001 Environmental Management System, and OHSAS 18001 Occupational Health & Safety Assessment certifications. The new integrated system that it set up during 2005 received the United Kingdom Accreditation Service’s (UKAS) award as the “best integrated management system”. With total assets worth nearly USD 70 million, ESGAZ holds a 30-year license to distribute natural gas in Eskişehir, a fast-growing and highly-developed city.
Investments continue to accelerate
ESGAZ is currently delivering natural gas to 43 neighborhoods in 13 districts of Eskişehir province. The company embarked upon an ambitious investment program in 2005 to broaden the use of natural gas in its territory and so far it has spent about USD 10 million on infrastructure investment. It completed all of the unfinished infrastructure in 2005 and since then has laid natural gas pipeline to many new neighborhoods. By end-2006 the option to change over to natural gas had been made available to an additional 20,000 dwelling units in the company’s territory.
Natural gas first arrived in Eskişehir in 1996. Since being acquired by Kolin in late 2003, ESGAZ has completed investments worth as much as all those that had been undertaken in the years prior to that. In a record-breaking four months’ time it laid 186,000 meters of PE pipe, the equivalent of 36% of all the company’s investment hitherto.
More than 210,000 subscribers and 90% natural gas penetration
One of the first two natural gas distribution companies to be privatized in Turkey, ESGAZ ranks fifth in the country in terms of total consumption.
As a result of the investments that it has undertaken, ESGAZ has made natural gas available to some 90% of the potential subscribers in Eskişehir. This is the highest rate of market penetration achieved by any natural gas distribution company in Turkey.
Based on the number of independent units it delivers to, the number of ESGAZ subscribers has reached 210,400.
After its privatization, ESGAZ underwent a thorough restructuring in which its management service standards were redefined, a customer-focused approach to management was adopted, and the quality of service provided to subscribers was improved. Combined with investments to take natural gas to neighborhoods where it was not yet available and with attractive subscription and installation campaigns, the use of natural gas in Eskişehir has increased substantially. ESGAZ’s investments in technology have also made it possible for the company to take care of all its subscribers’ needs, wishes, and dealings quickly, securely, productively, and effectively and this too enhances customer satisfaction as well.
