Following efforts to establish a high-capacity concrete sleeper factory in Turkey, SITAŞ (Sivas Beton Travers İmalat Sanayi Ve Ticaret A.Ş.) was established by Turkish and foreign private sector companies under the leadership of TCDD. The production plant was built on a 5,000-square meter indoor area over a land area of 20,000 square meters leased to SITAS by the TCDD. The foundation of the plant was laid on May 14, 2011 and test production began following completion of construction in June 2012. The company’s headquarters is located in Ankara. SITAŞ has been manufacturing since 2012. As the authority in the investment and operation of railways in Turkey, TCDD decided to invest in Sivas to attract foreign investors and transfer technology to promote the production of sleepers, which are required for modern railways in Turkey. Additionally, it published a letter of invitation, which included foreign manufacturers.

The decision was made to establish a partnership with the group led by the Koloğlu Holding, which submitted the most suitable offer. Sivas Travers Imalat Sanayi ve Tic. A. Ş. (SITAS) was subsequently founded on May 5, 2011.
