Istanbul Airport

This huge project was inaugurated by President of Turkey Recep Tayyip Erdoğan on October 29, 2018 and launched its operations as “Istanbul Airport.” Istanbul Airport, whose construction started on a 76.5 million-square-meter area on Istanbul’s Black Sea coast, will have six independent airfields upon completion, including the main passenger terminal, and its passenger capacity will reach 200 million per year. With its 1.4 million square meters area under a single roof built from scratch, the main terminal building serves 90 million passengers annually and launched its operations, the first phase consisting of two airfields (+ two auxiliary airfields), an air control tower and support facilities at full capacity on April 6, 2019. There are more than 500 check-in and 228 passport control points at Istanbul Airport, which was completed and opened in a record time of 42 months. In addition, this airport is noteworthy for its parking lot, which boasts a 40,000-vehicle capacity. Of these, 18,000 are indoor parking spaces and 22,000 are outdoor parking spaces. Istanbul Airport has made history and is one of the largest projects on a global scale. It passed critical stages without issue, including the “Great Migration” in April 2019. The relocation was completed in a record time of 33 hours, 12 hours earlier than expected, thanks to the determination and strong coordination of everyone involved. During the first year of operation, a total of 74 airline companies operated scheduled flights at Istanbul Airport, with 64 million passengers flying through April 6, 2019 to March 31, 2020. With its 55,000 total square meters of Duty Free areas, Istanbul Airport offers ample choice when it comes to food and beverage options, including local and traditional food from world cuisine. There are a total of 35 brands on offer, 15 foreign and 20 domestic, on an area of 34,000 square meters with 70 units. Istanbul Airport is a global hub that makes a difference with special passenger services like the IGA PASS and IGA Lounge.
